Ever been told you’re moody? We all are sometimes. But if your moods tend to be erratic or extreme and affect your overall life, you may have a mood disorder. The term encompasses a broad spectrum of conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder, among others. The earlier you treat a mood disorder, the better chances you have of a full recovery.
Here at Arcara, our team of three psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners specializes in mood disorder treatment. When you come in for your first appointment, we’ll do a thorough psychiatric assessment that includes discussing your chief complaint, evaluating your personal and medical history, any previous psychiatric history, family history, etc. We’ll also review your lifestyle choices, since lifestyle can have a major impact on mood disorders. After building a picture of your individual case and diagnosing your condition, we’ll provide advice on appropriate lifestyle changes. We’ll also prescribe medication as needed, given that mood disorders have been shown to respond well to such treatment. Before prescribing anything we’ll thoroughly discuss the medication’s risks and benefits with you. If necessary, we will refer you to a larger practice who specializes in complex mood disorders treatment.
Part of your care plan will involve follow-up visits with us where we can assess your progress and help you make adjustments as needed in order to continue positive progress. Mood disorders are difficult to live with, but with the right help, you can learn to cope with them and still live a full, happy life. Don’t hesitate to call us today. For your convenience we have offices in both Boston and Westborough, MA.
We do not have a psychiatrist on-site or a crisis intervention team. Because of this, we are unable to provide care for patients requiring particular types of psychiatric care. We can provide referrals to Boston and surrounding area psychiatric clinics or larger psychiatry offices who offer a comprehensive team.
Our practice manager can determine if our office will be able to provide you with the care you need.
