When you hear the word “depression,” odds are you automatically think “sadness.” While sadness is a component of depression, the disorder also causes anger, fatigue, suicidal feelings, change in appetite, irritability, etc. In short, depression is a serious medical condition that affects all parts of a person’s life and which, if untreated, can lead to serious repercussions. Fortunately, there are places in Boston and the surrounding areas where you can seek help and receive treatment for depression. At Arcara, our licensed psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can help you learn to cope with and manage depression. The first step is a psychiatric evaluation which involves a 45-minute session where we talk with you and learn about your personal and medical history. You may or may not have had previous experience with depression. Whether you have or not, we’ll assess your symptoms and, if you are diagnosed with depression, will then schedule a follow-up appointment. At the follow-up appointment it’s possible we’ll prescribe medication. If we do, we’ll clearly inform you of its risks and benefits. We’ll also provide you with lifestyle suggestions and coping strategies to help you better manage your condition. If we find you need further depression therapy, we can provide you with a referral to a Boston therapist who is licensed to treat depression. We will work with you to manage and support your recovery from depression. Give us a call today!
We do not have a psychiatrist on-site or a crisis intervention team. Because of this, we are unable to provide care for patients requiring particular types of psychiatric care. We can provide referrals to Boston and surrounding area psychiatric clinics or larger psychiatry offices who offer a comprehensive team.
